Bicycle City is a planned, compact design community where people live, work and play. Its eco-friendly, car-free design is healthy, sustainable and animal-friendly.
What word better conveys clean technology and an active and healthy lifestyle than 'Bicycle'? What word better conveys diversity, ideas and excitement than 'City'?
Bicycle City is designed to have the best of both small towns and cities. BC is walking-, running- and cycling-friendly with most everything needed located nearby. If someone owns a car, they park it conveniently on the outside edge of the community - ideally in an underground garage. Children and animals are safer without motor vehicles. Without the need to drive to work, people use less energy, save money and have less stress. Drive Less. Live More.
City Highlights include a strong community; active and healthy lifestyle; vibrant economy with good jobs; top education and health centers; diversity of people and ideas; social justice; clean technologies; eco-friendly, sustainable development; eclectic urban designs and architecture; organic agriculture; alternative energies; and a celebration of the arts.
Vibrant Economy: Bicycle City will attract some of the best and brightest people in all professions. Organizations of all sizes can give their associates something better while fulfilling their greener objectives.
Why are we working on this international eco-friendly communities project? For people, animals and our earth.
People... When we ask children to draw a city they would like to live in, they never include things like smog, traffic, crime or factory farms. Instead, they have things like a bright sun, clouds, clean water, happy people and animals. Let's build a place that is safe and healthy for our future - our children. We were all children once, so let's reexamine what made sense to us then.
Our Earth... Our sustainable communities can have a hugely positive impact on our planet and be part of the solution to global warming, pollution, deforestation, etc.
Animals... We respect the rights of animals and consider their welfare in all we do. Bicycle City will have policies and programs to make our community safer and healthier for all creatures.

Who are our associates, partners, friends and family who have contributed work, money, ideas and more? BC Contributors.
Bicycle City doesn't exist in a vacuum. Our influences include Paolo Soleri, Frank Lloyd Wright, John Robbins, Scott Martin, John Naisbitt, Richard Register, Andrés Duany and Maria Montessori. Places we have visited include Amsterdam; Arcosanti, AZ; Catalina Island, CA; Hydra Island, Greece; Mackinac Island, MI; and Zermatt, Switzerland.
Designing Great Cities and Communities: The main drivers behind the U.S. green building movement are widely-considered to include Frank Lloyd Wright, R. Buckminster Fuller, Sim Van der Ryn... More...
In his book Megatrends, John Naisbitt talked about 'High-Tech, High-Touch' communities. Technological advancements are not inherently evil, but require careful attention so that they nurture, rather than undermine, society. More...
In the early 1990s, BC was conceived, models built and drawings created. Now with funding, the first community is coming soon. Some dreams happen!
